Dol Ashram Located In Almora, Uttarakhand

Dol Ashram

Dol Ashram—also known as Shri Kalyanika Himalayan Dev Sthanam Niyas Kanra‑Dol—is a serene spiritual retreat located in the lush hills of Almora district in Uttarakhand. Founded in 1990 by Shri Parma Yogi Kalyandasji, it rests peacefully amidst dense Himalayan forests, making it an ideal sanctuary for meditation, yoga, and spiritual growth.

🕉️ Historical and Spiritual Significance

The ashram’s founder, Shri Kalyandasji, took to the spiritual path at the age of twelve and spent over two decades practicing meditation in the Himalayas and Odisha under his guru, Baba Swarupdasji. Inspired by divine visions during his Mansarovar pilgrimage, he vowed to create a spiritual refuge in the mountains—leading to the establishment of Dol Ashram in his homeland.

Over the years, Dol Ashram has grown into a respected spiritual institution and is considered by many as Uttarakhand's “fifth Dham” for its deep Vedic roots and cultural presence.

🏛️ Architecture & The Shri Yantra

Spread across about eight acres, Dol Ashram features beautifully landscaped gardens, temples, a large meditation hall, a library, and living quarters.

A defining landmark is the world's largest Shri Yantra, weighing around 1,600 kg, made of ashta dhatu (eight metals), and installed in April 2018 in the Shri Yantra Dhyana Peetham—a dedicated meditation center. This geometric diagram is revered in Vedic tradition for attracting prosperity, health, and wisdom by balancing cosmic energies.

At the entrance stands a majestic white statue of Lord Shiva in meditation, symbolizing serenity and spiritual strength, reinforcing the tranquil spirit of the grounds.

📚 Spiritual Learning & Daily Life

Dol Ashram serves as a hub for yoga and meditation aligned with the teachings of Shri Swami Vishnudevananda and Swami Sivananda. Courses cover Vedanta philosophy, Sanskrit, anatomy, physiology, and yogic sciences. Visitors following the ashram’s daily routine experience a disciplined lifestyle aimed at reducing laziness—the spiritual nemesis—and cultivating mindfulness.

An in‑house gurukul (traditional school) educates children—often from underprivileged backgrounds—free of cost, in Sanskrit, yoga, scriptures, and even modern subjects like English and computers. A dispensary, library (with over 10,000 books, including all four Vedas), and free medical services reinforce the ashram’s commitment to holistic well‑being.

🧘‍♀️ Facilities & Visitor Experience

  • Accommodation: Comfortable double‑bedded rooms with hot water facilities.

  • Dining: A mess hall serving simple vegetarian meals to around 120 visitors.

  • Meditation Hall: Seating for approximately 300–500 people.

  • Library: Known as the Shri Chandraacharya Library, established around 1997 with books on yoga, Ayurveda, spirituality, and ancient texts Strict protocols respect sacred areas: visitors must deposit mobile phones and photography devices, wear appropriate attire (dhotis for men, saris or skirts for women) to enter the Shri Yantra chamber, and maintain silence there.

📅 Festivals & Public Engagement

Dol Ashram holds an annual religious festival around Baisakh Purnima, lasting several days. The event includes Shrimad Bhagavat Katha, cultural programs, Rudrabhishek, Kalash Yatra (procession), and a public feast attended by thousands. In 2023, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami graced the celebration, performed puja and blessings, and announced plans to develop Dol Ashram into a global centre of spiritual tourism within the broader Manaskhand Temple Circuit Mission.
